Digital Learning

At St Bernard’s Primary School, we are committed to providing engaging, inclusive, and forward-thinking digital learning experiences for every child. Our promise is to equip our learners with the skills, creativity, and confidence to use Digital Technologies responsibly and effectively—preparing them for a world where digital competence is essential.

Digital learning is embedded across our curriculum. From the early years to upper primary, children at St Bernard’s are introduced to a wide range of digital tools and platforms that support learning across literacy, numeracy, expressive arts, science, and health and wellbeing.

Some key features of our digital learning offer include:

  • Digital Leaders and Pupil Action Teams: Our trained Digital Leaders support peers and staff, help run events like EU Code Week and Safer Internet Day, and lead on key initiatives such as podcast creation, green screen filming, and digital literacy campaigns.

  • Film and Animation Projects: We proudly lead one of Glasgow’s most active school film groups. Pupils plan, script, shoot, and edit films exploring local history, autism awareness, and community storytelling—often using iMovie, green screen tools, and GarageBand for audio.

  • Podcasting and Audio Learning: Pupils across upper stages participate in podcast production, where they learn to script, record, and edit segments before publishing their shows using iPads and accessible platforms.

  • Creativity Through Technology: Our learners regularly engage with digital art using Apple Pencils and Markup tools, design and cut creations with Cricut machines, and bring storytelling to life using Book Creator and Freeform.

  • Coding and Computational Thinking: Coding is a regular part of our curriculum, with children learning through Code.org, micro:bit MakeCode, and Swift Playground activities that build logical thinking. Our annual Code Week events allow pupils to teach others coding skills through peer-led workshops.

  • Family Engagement: We run regular digital learning sessions for parents, such as our Play Along Maths sessions, where families explore numeracy through digital apps and concrete materials. We also promote safe and responsible digital citizenship through home-school learning resources.

  • Staff Professional Learning: As a leading digital school, our team is committed to ongoing professional learning. Our Apple Learning Coaches support staff with one-to-one coaching, modelling lessons, and leading CLPL sessions across our Learning Community and beyond.

We believe in imagining, inspiring, and impacting—using digital technology to enhance creativity, inclusion, and confidence in all learners.
